Sciatica, Trigger Finger
My first experience with acupuncture began in 2001. I was having sciatic nerve pain down my right leg. After several treatments my pain was gone. At the same time, I was going through a very difficult situation in my personal life. Tami not only used her expertise of acupuncture for my sciatic nerve pain, but also used it for my emotional well-being.
In 2006 I experienced "trigger" finger and went to the doctor and got a cortisone shot in it. The shot relieved it for about six months. But after six months it began "freezing" up again. Only one cortisone shot is recommended for a trigger finger and then surgery. I did not want to have surgery on it. Once again, I turned to acupuncture for relief. Tami has not only helped me with the trigger finger she has helped me with the underlying causes of the trigger finger. She has been very diligent in treating me with acupuncture. She has also given me a lot of nutritional advice and always listens to all of my concerns. I really feel Tami puts her heart into her work.

Knee Pain
I first consulted with Tami for treatment of severe knee pain. My job requires that I stand most of the day and the pain was getting so bad that I could hardly work. It was difficult to walk. I had trouble sleeping because of the pain. Xrays were negative. I was taking large amounts of over the counter pain medication and still that wasn't enough. After a series of seven treatments my knee returned to normal. Tami taught me how my diet and excessive fluid intake was aggravating the swelling in my knees. It's been almost a year since my last treatment and I haven't had any more problems with my knee.

Arm Pain
I was crippled by a debilitating pain in my arm. The pain was so debilitating that it utterly consumed my life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There was no pain medicine which gave me relief. After 26 months of living with the pain, $22,000 in diagnostic tests and visits with 13 doctors (most of which were Nashville's finest orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons) and a trip to Mayo clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, I was forced to turn to an acupuncturist. After four visits, Tami completely eradicated any pain that I had experienced.

Migraine Headaches
Since my mid 20's I've been plagued with headaches that progressively got worse. I was diagnosed with migraines in my 30's and by my late 40's I was having several a month, some lasting a week at a time. I went to all types of doctors to seek relief. I only got minor relief from certain medications. By the time I was 50 I was diagnosed with basilar migraines and was told that some of the symptoms were similar to stroke and could even lead to stroke. I would get one and keep it for weeks at a time. By the end of the month I would almost be insane from the pain. My doctor tried me on every type of pill known to mankind. I took the strongest pain killer, a controlled substance. Eventually this no longer helped. We tried seizure medications. The side effects of the medications became intolerable. I would have to take medication just so I could take medication. That is just wrong!
My doctor finally said that it was time to find something else. That was when I remembered that I had always wanted to try acupuncture. I did some calling around and located Tami Slayton. I wanted someone who had been doing this for a while and knew what they were doing. I made an appointment and I will never live to regret it! I started going to Tami in March of 2009. I have had 3 migraines in that time, two of which she has knocked out within 10 minutes (or less) of entering her office. The 3rd I had to deal with because I was out of town. Even so, it was not near as bad as they had been in the past. I am having residual side affects from the visits-I feel good! Mentally and physically. I have been healthy, no cold or flu (I was prone to get them). I just feel better. It is hard to explain.
I talked to my doctor about it and he was pleased that it helped. He was at his wits end with trying to find something that would work and not cause other problems. Now when I go in and he asks how I am doing he is beyond pleased that I have been virtually headache free for a year.
If you suffer anywhere near as much as I did you really need to look into this form of healthcare. It is not something that your doctor will recommend. Try it! I can not recommend Tami enough to everyone I know and even some that I don't.

Shingles, Hip Pain
Ms Slayton has been my acupuncturist for over a decade. I called her last year because I thought I had been bitten on my back by a spider and it was painful and itchy, and seemed to be spreading. She asked me some succinct questions and said to go to the doctor immediately, as it was probably shingles. I went to the doctor and was told it was shingles and I was given an antiviral shot and antiviral pills to take. I was told I would probably need another round of the antiviral and that it would take some days for the blisters to start to dry up....I called Ms Slayton when I arrived home. She informed me that acupuncture was the number one treatment of shingles in China. I went for a treatment with her the next day. In the meantime the shingles site had spread and was becoming even more painful. Ms Slayton put in the needles and the pain stopped in just a few minutes. I could not believe it. She said they should dry up quickly and that was immediate too, they were gone in two days. I thought that was 'normal' for shingles treatment. A deep nerve pain came back at the site of the original blisters three days later, so I went for a second treatment. The pain went away the moment the needles went in, as during the first treatment, and I never had another symptom. I never took any of the antiviral pills. I have since heard many shingles stories and none of the people I have spoken with got the kind of results I got with acupuncture. Not only did it take weeks for the blisters to stop spreading and dry up, but their energy and stamina were severely affected, like chronic fatigue syndrome. I had none of that. I made a complete recovery in four days, and had virtually no pain after the needles were first put in.
If women knew this one diagnosis technique of Chinese medicine they would head for the needles. I have been careful with my diet and was upset that I had started having trouble with one of my hips. It hurt and was stiff. I complained in front of some girl friends and I could tell they were just being polite and did not want to say,"Hey you're getting older. What did you expect?" But I had never had this problem before and it was so sudden. I told Ms Slayton at my monthly "tune up" and she checked my pulses and said it was my gall bladder. When I got up from the table the pain and stiffness were gone. I have also changed to a more gall bladder friendly diet, as recommended by Ms Slayton, and the hip pain has not returned.

Interstitial Cystitis, Fibromyalgia, Foot Pain
Several years ago I was experiencing pelvic pain. After a thorough work up with my GYN, I was referred to a urologist, who diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis. I had to undergo a horrible test. It was horrific and I decided I would NEVER go through that again. I heard about Tami from a family member and decided to try acupuncture. Tami has been a wonderful resource to me to teach me about my body. I continue to see Tami about once a month for maintenance. I just try to follow the advice that Tami has given me over the years and I rarely have any bladder problems anymore.
I have also suffered with Fibromyalgia for over 20 years. While I do continue to suffer with chronic muscle pain and back pain at times, the combination of myofascial release therapy, chiropractic care and acupuncture keep me in fairly good shape. I am light years better than I used to be. There was time when my pain was so bad, I could literally not put one foot in front of the other. I prayed to die.
I recently visited a podiatrist because of some foot pain on the ball of my foot. He x-rayed it and determined that my sesamoid bone was fractured. He gave me a cortisone shot and said I had a 50-50 chance of it healing. If that didn't help, surgery would probably be inevitable. The shot did nothing. I had two weeks of intense pain following the shot. I had one treatment with Tami, and the pain virtually disappeared. I"ve not had once problem with that foot since that treatment.
I don't necessarily understand everything there is to know about Chinese medicine, but I do know it's been around for thousands of years. I hope that I'm fortunate enough to have acupuncture for many years because I realize the importance of it to my wellbeing. Tami has been nothing but a blessing to my life for which I'm forever grateful.
